Program Launch Highlights

The official launch of the Chief Minister’s Transport Program took place with great enthusiasm, as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally inaugurated the initiative. During the event, she emphasized the importance of providing safe and reliable transportation for female students. In a symbolic gesture, she handed over the keys of new buses to the principals of 19 women’s colleges.

The program was praised by both students and educators as a much-needed solution for the long-standing transportation challenges faced by girls in rural and less connected areas of Punjab.

Phased Implementation of the Bus Program

The initiative will be rolled out in three phases, with 76 buses in total being distributed to various women’s colleges across the province. This gradual approach ensures that the buses are delivered systematically to the colleges in need, starting with the most transport-deprived areas.

  • Phase 1: 19 buses have already been provided to women’s colleges in tehsils that were previously lacking transportation options.
  • Phase 2: More buses will be delivered by February 2025, covering additional tehsils and regions.
  • Phase 3: The final phase of bus distribution is scheduled to be completed by March-April 2025, where the remaining colleges will receive their buses and coaches.

First Phase: Colleges Receiving Buses

In the first phase of this transport initiative, 19 women’s colleges from various tehsils in Punjab have already received buses. The selected tehsils include Bhakkar, Sialkot, Chiniot, Kamalia, and many more. These areas have been identified as high-need regions where students face significant difficulties in commuting to their educational institutions. By providing transportation to these regions, the government is making education more accessible to girls who would otherwise face challenges in attending college regularly.

By February 2025, girls’ colleges in tehsils such as Nowshera Warkan, Taxila, Raiwind, and Sarai Alamgir will receive their buses. This phase is particularly important for expanding the reach of the program and ensuring that more remote and underserved areas are included.

Third Phase Distribution

The final phase of the transport initiative will see the delivery of 2 more buses and 32 additional coaches to colleges in 35 tehsils. This will be completed by March-April 2025. The remaining areas, including Allama Iqbal Town Lahore, Isa Khel, and Sohawa, will benefit from these buses, ensuring that girls from all across the province have equal access to safe, reliable transport.

Review of Future Proposals

During the launch, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took the time to inspect the newly provided buses and facilities. The government is not just stopping at this phase; there is already a proposal under consideration for the provision of air-conditioned buses for women’s colleges. This proposal reflects the government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for female students, making sure they travel in comfort, especially during Punjab’s hot summers.

Meeting with Students

The students expressed their gratitude by presenting the Chief Minister with a bouquet of flowers.
